Report a network problem

Please call the OIT HelpDesk for Students/Faculty/Staff at (865) 974-9900.

Here's the sort of information you'll likely be asked for:

  • How widespread is the problem? Is it affecting one machine, a whole office, an entire floor or building?

  • What is the circuit number of the device having a problem? (For wired connections, the cable pulls back to a faceplate on the wall with a label that should read something like ODH250013). This is often the most useful piece of information you can give us!

  • What is the IP name or number of the device having a problem?

  • What is the MAC or hardware address of the device having a problem? (Here's how to find out!)

Once the situation has been assessed, a trouble ticket will be generated. If you need to call back about the issue, having the trouble ticket number handy can help speed things up!
